"In a drive to cut waiting times for operations and ease the workload of surgeons, the NHS will be putting plans forward for nurses to become 'surgical care practitioners' after training for 2 years. Qualified nurses would then be responsible for procedures such as the removal of hernias, benign cysts, some skin cancers and undertake key tasks during major surgery (including heart bypasses and hip/knee replacements). Do you think this is a good thing or do you think that this will be alarming to patients whose operations are being carried out by non-surgeons.".
