Should the Government introduce identity cards which you must carry at all times?

"Should people who live legally in the UK be issued with an identity card in order to help authorities to check people's status as to whether they should be legally in the country. Or, do you think this is an impeachment of our basic right to move anonymously without being force to identify ourselves.".
