Should children under 16 have the right to the same wages as an under 18 year old doing the same job as they are both still in full-time education/training?

The above question was asked to the It-Your-Vote community.

We provided additional information for the question which was:

"Currently there are no rules on the pay per hour that under 16's get paid, according to the government (www.gov.uk): "School-aged children are not entitled to the National Minimum Wage". But, there is a number of employers employing under 16 year old's on different hourly rates to under 18 year old's but doing the same job. Is this double standard acceptable. This question is not focused on other factors like maximum number of hours a pre-16 can work and other differences designed to protect a child in the workplace. Its focus is on different aged pre-18 years old's, getting different levels of pay per hour for the same job.".

The available answers for this questions were:

1. No, it should be up to the employer to pay the appropriate wage they deem fit

2. No view on this question

3. Yes - they should get the same hourly wage for the same job
