Should social media companies be held accountable when harmful content is posted on their platforms?

"There are countless examples of when social media has been used to cause suffering and harm to people. But who is responsible for monitoring social media and stopping harmful content from appearing. Is it the social media companies themselves or is it unfair to make them accountable for rogue individuals/groups using their platforms incorrectly.".
