Should anyone be allowed to pick their own gender/race?

The above question was asked to the It-Your-Vote community.

We provided additional information for the question which was:

"The Universities and Colleges Union has reported that men and women should be able to self-identify regardless of their anatomy (men should be able to self identify as women and vice versa). They also insisted that a person could also choose their own race. Is this the way forward and everyone allowed to self identify themselves. Or, do you think self identification is a bad thing.".
